Some people – who believe Twitter has a business value – have two accounts. One to tell everyone how much they love their kids and that they are married to the best little lady this side of the Rio Grande and another to deal with professional stuff.

I don’t think that personal professional content has to be separated and I don’t like the idea of maintaining two accounts but if you think it has business value your job title has to come first.

Really, don’t you think I know that you love your kids? That can be taken for granted. I’ll even assume that you love your wife. These are givens. It’s great to tell everyone but you don’t lead with them if you really think that Twitter might bring you enough moolah to pay for their education.

I can appreciate that you want to hear “lawyer” first, but as far as I am concerned that is the 4th most interesting part of me (maybe). Twitter is so much about the individuals that even though people have told me to put up a more professional picture, this is who I am- and I want people to know that family comes first for me. Some will be attracted by that- while others will be turned off.

Who cares that you’re a father? Not me. I don’t want to know your religion either. Or that you like pink bunny rabbits. I want to see that you’re a lawyer. Lead with your job title. Then, if you must, add the rest.
